For the Best Thermal Energy Savings Award, Medium Consumer Category only IPS project companies were nominated including Frigoken Ltd.
Speaking at the award ceremony Elly Onyango, the environment, health and safety officer of Industrial Promotion Services(IPS) highlighted that they are committed to continual improvement in energy conservation and management, implementation of green initiatives, and has set on course environmentally sustainable development programs across its project companies.
‘‘We have implemented several measures notably the thermal energy savings projects in the galvanizing plant by insulating the galvanizing tanks using vermiculite, glass wool and metal plates of 50mm thickness. We also invested in fuel (HFO) energy savings of 45GJ,’’ says Robert Ouko an engineer from WPL.
Henry Mumo a staff at FCL stated that they have put in place energy conservation measures which include sealing of steam leakages, lagging of steam pipes, servicing of steam traps and servicing of our boiler’s fire tubes.
Some of the other initiatives that the project companies have adopted include renewable energy, installation of biomass boilers, biogas generation, voltage optimizers, use of energy-saving bulbs and high-performance motors.
‘‘IPS project companies have embarked on a net zero journey, and we are guided by the AKDN Environment and Climate Commitment Statement which highlights overriding principles and guidelines that will enable us to adopt initiatives for a green future,’’ says Nushin Ghassmi head of sustainability and communications Industrial Promotion Services (IPS).
She further added that they have set targets across their operations, Net zero by 2030, 42% energy reduction by 2030, 20% water reduction by 2025, Zero Waste to Landfill by 2025, 80% + survival for trees planted and EDGE Advanced certification.
Across the group, we are continuously adopting sustainability ventures to enhance carbon reduction to ensure we meet our net zero goal by 2030.
